Pilot and Full Scale Demonstration Plants

Interstate Water & Wastewater Specialists has designed, evaluated, constructed, repaired and maintained Pilot and Demonstration Plants in the Northeast since 1987. These plants include both municipal water treatment facilities and industrial plants dealing with specialized wastewater treatment needs, as well as mobile units for water treatment testing purposes.

With this extensive experience in a wide-ranging area of industries, IWWS provides specialized services that are both affordable to develop and scalable in design. IWWS pilot plants have been used to both demonstrate technologies and develop data that can be used in design or operations of full-scale systems.

Types of Projects Completed

Interstate Water & Wastewater Specialists has provided pilot and demonstration plant services for some of these recent projects:

Cambridge Water Technology:  CoMag Process
Redesigned and completed a mobile pilot trailer to aid in the development and demonstration of a new phosphorous removal technology.

Cambridge Water Technology:  BioMag Process
Redesigned and completed a mobile pilot trailer to aid in the development and demonstration of a new phosphorous removal technology.

Tewksbury, MA Water Treatment Plant
Designed and implemented a fully operational system for disposal of alum sludge that would maintain operations for 5-7 years to allow time for the construction of a permanent facility.

Maynard, MA Wastewater Treatment Plant
Designed, constructed and operated a full scale phosphorus removal system treating 1 MGD. Temporary facilities were designed and installed to provide the means to test various coagulants effectiveness to consistently remove phosphorus to 0.75 mg/l and minimize additional sludge production so as not to overload the existing sludge handling facilities.

Andover, MA Water Treatment Plant
Provided services to design and construct a permanent 6 GPM pilot facility to test and determine operating parameters for various treatment options prior to making actual process changes to the full scale water treatment facility.
